The first ever Sewing Indie Month is here!

Drumroll please! Have you heard? The first ever Sewing Indie Month begins today!

Early this year, the lovely and talented Mari Miller of Seamster Patterns contacted me to ask if I wanted to participate in a month-long blog event, or, well – let’s be honest: a month-long party of indie sewing pattern designers. 21 of us, no less! It’s an awesome list, and I’m honored to be a part of this group. The goal was to foster friendships and learn about and from each other, sharing the sewing community’s spirit of collaboration – for an entire month. How awesome is this?

There will be interviews coming your way. There will be tutorials coming your way. Posted every weekday through the month of May. There will be not one, not two but four categories of sewalongs. Here’s the calendar to help you keep track of it all.

And that’s not all! Mari has worked tirelessly not only in shepherding 21 designers – she’s lined up four of your favorite sewing bloggers to run sewalongs, with over $1000 in prizes! Wanett of Sown BrooklynLaura of Lilacs and LaceJenny of Cashmerette, and Rhonda of Rhonda’s Creative Life are the four fabulous bloggers in charge – and the list of sponsors is amazing. Click over to the Sewalongs and Prizes page  for details.

Here are the rules to participate:

The sewalong runs past the end of May (through June 4) so all of you will have enough time to photograph and post your lovely creations. I can’t wait to see them! And just remember the prizes, which are truly amazing, if I do say so myself! And yes, I did contribute a little something too: one of the things you can win is a Kate & Rose hot iron transfer embroidery pattern pack!

Please visit the sew-along blogs to find out specific prizes awarded to each category. Doesn’t it make you want to get sewing right this second? There will also be pattern packs awarded with a selection of sewing patterns from the designers participating in Sewing Indie Month. You’ll get to pick your favorite from Kate & Rose – the Róza or one of the three new patterns to be released TOMORROW. Here are the pattern packs by category:

Happy sewing!
